FISHING TRIP TO NORTHERN MONGOLIA  August - September
HUCHO TAIMEN, LENOK, GRAYLING

Geography: The famous CHANAGAI camp is found some 1400 m above sealevel along the Shishkid river in the mountainous taiga area of North-Western Mongolia.

Chanagai Camp

Itinerary: From Europe via a short stop in Moscow, we will straight fly to Ulan-Bataar, Mongolia’s capital. Upon arrival next morning we will rest in in Ulan-Bataar, have some sight seeing and will be transferred next day to final destination by charter plain or helicopter. Same schedule upon return.

Climate: Climate is severe, with frequent weather changes . Frost usually does not appear before the second half of September. Warm sunny days are quite possible but some last rainspells should be considered as well.

Large Lenok (Siberian Trout)

Fishing: Fishing will take place in famous, strongly fish populated, Shishkid river, a swift flowing mountain, stony river with lots of boulders and islands that sometimes reaches widths up to 60-80 m. It is extremely well fitted for flyfishing whereas spinfishing is as good as always. Siberian Grayling will reach about 40 cm, lenok will be up to 70 cm and the rich occurrence of trophy taimen from 100-130 cm ranks this spot amongst the best in Mongolia . It should however be said that this area covered by taiga and surrounded by high mountains requires a good physical condition. A log cabin some 15 km down enables a 2-3 days  trip that extends Fishing possibilities considerably.

In the camp you will be well taken care of…..

Accomodation and equipment : Top Accomodation is provided in well-equipped log cabins with high-quality stoves and beds with bedding. The camp has a social room with a bar, showers with hot water, toilets and a well-equipped kitchen. Electricity is supplied by a petrol-run aggregeate.

Taimen over  40 lbs are regularly caught

Qualification: You will find cheaper and easier possibilities. You may for example ask for our SELENGE Camp. But, no doubt you will not find a greater place and a better camp in your search after big taimen, especially if you want to practise fly fishing. It however asks for some long and difficult walks as other means of transport except from a horse are impossible. Nature is of an extreme beauty . It just cannot get any wilder…..
