
Kola
Location: The world famous Ponoy River Camp at 67 degrees lattitude is situated on Kola peninsula, a little over 200 miles or 2 hrs helicopter flying time S.E of Murmansk, along the mighty Ponoy river with its fabulous tributaries like Purnache and Tomba, in the middle of the northern tundra.
Season: From June-October. Salmon Fishing Club presently has the exclusivity to all 16 rods during the last week of July, a period that offers white nights, comfortable temperatures, good water levels and average catches of 28 good sized salmon/person.A highly acceptable quality/price ratio. Other weeks are available to individuals and smaller groups.
Ponoy River: This 250 miles long , from west to east flowing river enters the Barentz Sea on the southeast coast of the Kola Peninsula. It is from 100 -220 yds wide, 1-3 yds deep and slightly tea coloured. Besides every boulder a Salmon may be expected. The camp is perfectly situated at the confluence of Ryabaga river and Ponoy, which performs the fantastic " home pool" , also called Jewel of the Kola and just 5 minutes away by boat from famous rocky tributary Purnache. One group is flewn daily to the Tomba canyon with probably the largest fish.

Atlantic Salmon
Fish: All guests catch inevitably large amounts of big Grayling. Some may also catch a Seatrout or a Brown Trout but it is the Atlantic Salmon they are after. Average weight is around 9-10 lbs with many samples clearly passing 15 and some 20 lbs. Boats with experienced guides host each 2 clients to the hot spots. There is both boat and bank fishing. This is Salmon Fishing for fishermen from 8-80 years.
Tackle: Catch and Release Flyfishing with barbless hooks, supporting the ASF/PINRO research on-site project is practised. A light 9 wt double handed Flyrod is just right for the chosen period. With an intermediate or sinktip line and a size 4 Tippet Shrimp you will hardly go wrong. And if you will: all tackle can be borrowed and flies bought or tied at the camp.

Ponoy River Camp
Accommodation: High quality, American made spacious tents with wooden floors, built-in shelving, sturdy beds with good mattresses and extra- long, extra-wide sleeping bags with 7 lbs of fill, 110-220 Volt and Finnish stoves, for 2 guests each. The camp has several wooden cabins, flush toilets, hot showers, a power generator, a helicopter and 12 power boats. The excellent meals are served in a large mess tent or in a rest tent at your fishing site. A local staff of about 25 people takes care of 16 guests.
Options: The " home pool" is open to night fishing.
Notes: Fantastic Fishing, extremely well organized. An occasional mosquito can however be a nuisance.
